Firstly, I don’t have a diesel, so save your preaching I don’t roll coal. I literally cannot even. Anyways, now to the question, I know rolling coal is generally considered to be a “bro truck” activity.

I was just wondering if our VAG friends had gotten in on the trend. I have never seen a Jetta or a Golf roll coal, but I think I might enjoy one that did haha. It would be the ultimate troll mobile. From a theoretical perspective that would be possible right?

Have you guys ever seen that?

2004 Golf R32 for your time.

Oh yes. Both of the VW dealers I’ve worked at have had techs that set up their TDIs to roll coal.

I’ve seen a 5 series diesel roll coal on the Blue Route in Pa. The small cars don’t smoke nearly as much. I think the big clouds require a relatively large displacemnt, thanks god.

Stanced and rolling coal. Impressive.

Saw one a few months back that rolled coal so hard he obscured two lanes of traffic on one of the busiest streets in town. I've only ever seen that one though so it's been my observation that it's rare for them to behave like that.

A colleague in college swapped out for larger injectors on his Jetta and it started rolling coal, it’s typically a bad tune that does it.

As with all of the replies below, it’s clear that idiocy knows no make/model. I think there are more individuals in the VW/Audi game that know that rolling coal is just a waste of power and the ones into tuning are doing everything they can to no blow a ton of smoke. Perfect tune yields minimal smoke except at wide open throttle.

I’m just going to put this out there, I had a tuned 2004 Ram 3500 w/ the 5.9 Cummins and I would roll coal non stop, because there are very few things as satisfying as rolling coal.

My bosses Jetta used to roll coal really hard. It wasn’t intentional though.

I’ve been behind a wagon that was purposely rolling. It was not pleasant and I got out from behind it as soon as I could.

If I was a mean person I would share this to the blog. But I am not that evil. Rolling coal doesn’t bother me much, but I think it would be funner in a golf rather than a truck.

Tons of dubbers roal coll. I'm not a fan, but OK to see once in a while. I think you have to do an EGR delete and get a 'malone' tune?

Depends on how old it is, same as trucks. Newer ones have more advanced fuel systems and exhaust / emissions systems, specifically using DPF and DEF. As a result, they won’t smoke at all.

Older ones that predate DPF and DEF could smoke stock, or you could increase the amount of fuel injected to induce smoking.

Only time I’ve seen a VW roll coal is because it’s a 15+ year old diesel, and it’s more of a roll-light at best.

Was this from your time in Florida, because that means you basically had no choice, it just had to be done, its the florida way.

IMO

A car rolling coal = neat

A truck rolling coal = douche

friend of mine had a older Jetta TDI with a ‘’coal switch’’. It basically bypass the stock resistance of the electric fuel pump for a much bigger one (so the pump now dumps fuel as fast as it can). It was also straight pipe from the turbo... surprisingly quiet.

It’s not as impressive as the brotrucks, but its still really cool to use if someone rides your bumper. Gave the car a nice little boost, too.

But the turbo blew up a few months after the installation, so I suspect it wasn’t very reliable.

Dont need a diesel per se. My 98 Talon will “roll coal” when im in high boost and high throttle.

Buddy that has followed me before says it smokes like a freight train. Downside of tuning with pump gas

Just YouTube “TDI Jetta” and you’ll get tonnes of coal rolling Jettas. It’s funny as all hell.
